a happy collection of designs, concepts and show writing for themed experiences.
"You're a hybrid." That’s how a boss once described me. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t comparing me to a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources. (even though I’d be ok with that) No, he just liked to throw challenges my way. Interactive concepts? Sure. Storyboarding? Ok! Scriptwriting? You got it. If there’s a story to tell, I’ll tell it. Design it. Write it. Draw it. Make it. And I thank my theatre upbringing for grounding me in story.
Welcome to my big blue hat. I’ve stashed a bunch of fun stuff in here. Come and see!
Helped create and install set design elements, including backdrops and turning styrofoam into bricks.
Working with the Engineering Department at The George Washington University, I created the concept and initial design for their float for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Parade. Final float design killed the columns, but the rest was used in final execution.
THE CONCEPT
Wrote this sketch, "19th Century Man Walks Into A Bar," for the sketch comedy show, Dislike Button at The Second City Chicago. See below for a full video of the sketch.
Designed main character's costume and created his very important prop - "Bartholomew!" Ken doll + Michael's Arts and Crafts black felt swatches + black paint pen + foam squares + hot glue + old buttons = Brother Bartholomew.
Created concept and content that was then translated into an eye-popping instore display that mirrored the first image below. Life-size cutouts of each look with the copy reading: Your Ultimate Prom Style.
The online experience I created included top trends page with tips and tricks, personal checklist creation and style quiz to discover your prom personality and dresses and accessories that suit you.
Helped find period elements for the set from local antique store. BONUS: Found costumes there, too.
Original sketches for the online and in park experience
Final creative used for tv, radio, in-park signage and web
A branding consulting company needed a new sales tool when speaking to
prospective clients. They asked for a new business card design and brochure.
My thought was...but that’s what your competition is doing. It’s tired. It’s not impactful.
You’re bold. You’re new. You know your stuff. After studying their brand, I came
up with the idea of handing out something much more substantial. Something
that wouldn’t get lost on desks that are cluttered with papers and cards. After
researching how inexpensive it would be to produce these 2-color paddles,
the client went forward with the concept, “Set Your Brand On Fire.” This
concept resulted in a 25% increase in new business with the first month
of handing these out.
When searching for cases for my new iPad, I was pretty disappointed in the selections. When I came across a book-like case made by the company Twelve South, I had an idea. I created a custom design to mimic a moment from one of my Disney Pixar favorites - UP. Not bad, right?
